The Consortium aims to encourage increased participation in a wide range of high-quality, film-related activities in order to benefit the local and wider community and to this end employs, Darren Elliott, a part-time Film Education Coordinator.
The Hertfordshire Film Consortium programmes a collection of activities and events including: film archive projects, introduced screenings, Q & A’s with directors, academics and creatives, film studies evening courses, production workshops, festivals, lectures and curriculum-led student study days linked to GCSE/A/AS/BTEC and Undergraduate Film, English, Media, History and Art Studies.


• Encourage the development of new audiences; encourage young people, students, and different age groups from the wider community to see and enjoy a greater diversity and number of films and pursue an interest in film education linked to cinema screenings,production work and other activities.
• Foster regional partnerships between cultural and mainstream cinema exhibition, informal and formal education providers and regional partners to maximise the outreach and impact of Film Consortium activities.
• Improve access for in particular young people in Hertfordshire to see high quality, diverse films and participate in moving image education activities. To encourage and improve the access for young people to pursue a career in the film and audiovisual industry.
• Support the professional development of education providers and assist them with educational programmes to enhance an understanding of film culture.
• Contribute to literacy and visual literacy development. Promote film as an important medium for education providers to foster creative, practical, analytical and language skills.
• Raise the profile of Hertfordshire as a core region of the audiovisual industry and promote awareness of the rich history of film production in the region.
• The Hertfordshire Film Consortium will provide educational events, workshops and resources aimed at a demographic of 50% Primary/Secondary school students, and 50% FE College, Undergraduate/Postgraduate, Adult Learners and the General Public.
